With the motto “Together we serve better and longer” the association was formed to promote and protect screen printing industry, to stimulate and promote the development of screen printing in India through various programmes. SPAI takes prides in noting that many of its members have been regularly bag tops awards in national and international competitions such FESPA, SGIA, Screen Print India expo, etc.

It is an associate member of FESPA, a leading international association with 34 member and member associations from different countries. SPAI was officially voted as an associate member of FESPA during its General Assembly held in Sweden in 2004. As a result of this, besides many other benefits, SPAI members are eligible to receive issues of FESPA WORLD (4 issues), a comprehensive global magazine for screen and digital printers with exhaustive industry coverage (news and technical articles). SPAI actively associated with FESPA for its two international events in India – Fespa India – 2005 and 2007 in New Delhi. SPAI had initiated Awards Competition in both these events and many of the members won awards. This way SPAI also encourages excellence in screen printing. Because of its association with FESAP, some of the members could send their entries to FESPA’s international award competitions – Munich 2005 and Berlin 2007, Geneva (Digital) 2008, and SPAI members, by bagging awards in these competitions, proved that Indian screen printers can match international standards.

From time to time SPAI deputes or joins in electing or nominating delegates and advisers to represent screen printing industry at state, national and international level. SPAI also associates with other industry associations/bodies in their activities so that SPAI members become aware of the burgeoning opportunities and technological developments in various fields connected to screen printing since this process is a vast subject.

SPAI targets to educate print buyers, printers and others related to screen printing industry on the need and importance of screen printing at various industry events where SPAI office bearers take part either as speakers or as participants to share their experience.

Most of its members (printers – screen, digital and offset) are involved in the printing/production of commercial graphics, industrial printing and textile printing : Advertising materials, ceramics/flat glass, compact disc, containers/3-D objects, stickers, labels and allied products, decals, digital imaging, embroidery, fine art/serigraphs, membrane switch, nameplates/dials/gauges/panels, pad printing, brochures, POP and displays, printing circuitry/electronics, signage: large format, T-shirts and garments; stationery products, wedding-greeting-visiting cards, calendars, planners, diaries, posters, danglers, large format promotional items, name plates, metallic base products, plastic base products, glass, mirror and tile products; water transfer and dry transfer decals; banners .. and the list is simply endless. On the supply side, there are many who are into manufacturing of screen printing machines, equipment and allied products, inks and chemicals, dealers, stockists, suppliers of overseas and Indian manufacturers. Some members are involved in training and educational activities as well.

2008: Relaunch of website of SPAI – www.spai.in on December 17.

2008: SPAI members won award in SGIA awards competition, and at FESPA Digital Geneva.

2008: Some of members won awards at Screen Print India expo in Mumbai.

2008: SPAI supported ‘Color management conference’ organized by Graphic Arts Technology & Education (GATE) in Mumbai from 26-27 Feb 2008.

2007: SPAI actively involved in FESPA INDIA’07 New Delhi (7-9 Dec).
SPAI initiated Awards Nite.. 40 printers participated in the competition with 161 entries. Awards were given away to the winners by top SPAI and FESPA office bearers present on the dais. All the entries were on display at the exhibition venue for public viewing. SPAI had put up its own stall to create awareness about the association and for membership drive. FESPA’s Sensation book was launched and SPAI took up the initiate to market it further.

2007: In association with SPAI’s top office bearers, FESPA organized FESPA INDIA’07 road show in Tirupur during KNITSHOW’07 and involved textile printing industry body TEKPA in the event. SPAI and FESPA office bearers visited a big textile and garment mfg companies in Tirupur. Wide coverage in SSDI and FESPA WORLD magazines.

2007: Two board members attended FESPA General Assembly, Athens, Greece on 14 and 15, September.

2006: Two Board members attended FESPA General Assembly in Slovakia in September.

2006: SPAI actively involved in the Road show/launching of FESPA India’07 in December 9, in Mumbai.
Many of the SPAI members were present. Screen, Sign & Digital India, initiated by FESPA-SPAI was also launched.

2005: SPAI actively involved in FESPA World Expo India’05 held from Dec 1-4 Dec at Pragati Maidan New Delhi. 33 members participated in Premier Awards Competition (entries received in screen printing, textiles and industrial and digital category). Awards won by a number of SPAI members. Wide coverage in FESPA World, Print Bulletin, and many more publications.

2005: FESPA Munich expo (Future of Global Imaging) in June 2005. First time awards competition was open to SPAI members in India. Factory visits for SPAI Members at Graphic Technology Research Assn, Riebl-Siebdruck, Siebdruck Roos GmbH, Schreiner Group, Suddeutscher Verlag. SPAI members also attended daily seminars.

2005: 60 people took part in SPAI organized Color Management Conference and seminar at Hotel City Park in New Delhi, on 20th Aug. The event was supported by GATE, GretagMacbeth, Grafica, and sponsored by JN Arora & Co Pvt Ltd. New Delhi. Seminar by Kiran Prayagi of GATE, on fundamental of color science and color reproduction, Khoo Wei Siang on color managemtn and workflow, Bhargav on understanding four color screen printing techniques and experience sharing by leading printers: Mr Man Mohan MD, Monochem, Janardhan Nelly, Director, New Color Screen; P K Lamba, Cosmic Advertisers; Kamlakar Wadekar, Ace Printers and Virender Singh, Manager, JNS.

2005: SPAI completes 25 years (SILVER JUBILEE). Get together organized to mark the occasion in Mumbai on 11th November 2005. SPAI honoured award winners of the FESPA 2005 Munich competition.

2004: SPAI was officially voted as an associate member of FESPA during its General Assembly held in Sweden in 2004. (Photo from ‘Stockholm folder). SPAI attended the first meeting of FESPA.

2004: SPAI was invited by SGIA to make presentation on Indian Screen Printing screnario. Accordingly, Bhargav Mistry, a Board member made presentation to an audience of 30-40 which included officer bearers of SGIA, including Michael Robertson, then President of SGIA.

2004: Michael Robertson, then President of SGIA visits SCREEN PRINT INDIA’04 expo in Mumbai where, he interacted with SPAI Board members and after getting the first hand impression of Indian screen printing, back home, invited SPAI to make presentation to SGIA.

2004: SPAI was the supporting association for Screen Print India expo and Awards 2004 (20-22 August)

2004: SPAI supported India Label Show and Info Label Conference organized by AIDC Technologies Association of India in Dec in New Delhi and SPAI received front page coverage in the Preview Newsletter published by Label Expositions, appreciating SPAI’s support.

2003: SPAI supported ‘Color management conference’ organized by Graphic Arts Technology & Education (GATE) in Mumbai from 20-21 Feb. SPAI received special discount for its members.

2003: SPAI members took part in industry event, organized by AIPIMA ‘International conference & workshops on global challenges for inks and coatings’ on Dec 11-12 in Mumbai.

2003: Workshop organized by Sericol India on ‘Four colour screen printing” in Mumbai on Dec 12, where SPAI reserved few seats with big discount in entry fees. (Workshop by Joe Muller, Sericol UK)

2002: 24 member SPAI delegation visited FESPA 2002 in Madrid; SPAI supported Screen Print India 2002 Mumbai which was inaugurated by then past FESPA President, Michel Caza.
