During the recently concluded FESPA 2010 international competition in Munich, Germany, Indian Printers have won a fairly large number of Awards with 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze. Even the student entries from India in the Youth competition have won Silver and Bronze. The Michel Caza People’s Choice Award, a new award introduced for FESPA 2010, was received by AB Screens from Tiruppur, for its entry in the category Special Effects Printed on T-shirts and other garments (single/multi colour).
Statistically speaking 33 Indian printers and 2 Institutes had submitted a whopping 195 entries to the Awards competition, which was close to 50% of the entries received by FESPA from 38 countries
The FESPA Board members were happy to observe the tremendous improvement in the Quality and Quantity of entries from India ever since the Indian printers started participating in FESPA’s international awards competition 5 years ago. Hence they had every reason to shower praises on Indian printers
Nigel Steffens, FESPA’s Managing Director comments, “This year we were delighted that the awards attracted more than 450 entries from members of FESPA’s national associations around the world. The jury, which consisted of technical screen and digital print experts as well as top industry editors, remarked on the high calibre of the entries, and the excellence of the screen printed entries was second-to-none.
“Encouragingly, a high proportion of award entries came from emerging markets including India, Thailand and Russia, underlining the quality and dynamism of screen print production in these countries.”
Chris Smith, Head Membership Services, who is overseeing the Awards Competition activity this time, recollected that in FESPA2005, the number of entries that were received and the quality of the printing was far behind of what it was in sirca 2010. He viewed this drastic change as a reflection of how Indian Printers are putting tremendous efforts, both in terms of investment and technology, to bring out innovativeness and quality improvement
Michel Caza, the senior most FESPA Board Member, who commands high respect for his abundant knowledge and expertise and considered as an authority in Screen Printing process, was very happy to see the tremendous change taking place in the Quality and Innovation by the Indian Screen Printers. He felt that if they are more innovative, they will have many more awards in the FESPA 2013, to be held in London.
Russia and Switzerland have performed very well this time and won many awards. Indian printers would have to be careful about classification of the categories and send newer and creative entries, instead of repetition of entries, which have been put up in earlier events.
